a r t// map repeat pattens

Using printed paper maps, I hand cut the outlines of various cities, scanned and edited each of them by mirroring areas of details and produced repeat patterns for each map.

a d v e n t u r e// London day out part 2

We visited the My Name is Paul Smith exhibition at the Design museum which was awesome, probably one of the coolest exhibitions I've seen in ages, really well thought out and presented.

We also saw the Designs of the Year 2014 exhibition at the Design Museum, which was also pretty interesting and inspiring, so many new ideas and designs in a broad range of creative disaplines.

After the museum we walked down to Tower Bridge and over to the Tower or London, even though I've been to London heaps if times, I've never visited either before.

The nasty looking weather made for very dramatic photos.

I was laughing at this for ages because it looked like the statue was directing the cranes. Simple things.

En route to the train station we stopped to visit Sherlock Holmes, sadly we arrived too late to go in to see the full museum but still had time for a quick nose around the gift shop and pose for a photo with Mr Holmes personal guard.

One final stop, just around the corner from Baker Street, to see the house when BBC Sherlock is filmed, although the door number has been changed back to avoid confusing the postman, the door knocker was slightly wonky as expected. Pretty cute.

And that's it! I think that's the first time I've been to London and not been shopping at all but no complaints, was definitely a lovely and inspiring day out with my dad in my favourite city.

a d v e n t u r e// London day out part 1

A few weekends back, my dad and I took a trip to London for the day to visit some galleries, see some sights and eat lush food.

We got a crazy early train and arrived in London before pretty much anyone, but this meant we could visit The Breakfast Club in Soho without any queues, which was amazing and wonder down a very empty Carnaby Street, which was odd.

Breakfast at The Breakfast Club

Carnaby Street, Light Bulb Instillation

Tate Britain- we went to the Tate to see the Ruin Lust exhibition which was amazing, I'm becoming a bit obsessed with abandoned and decaying spaces so it was so inspiring to see so many artists responding to the subject in a really varied way.

Tate Britain, dad admiring the art.
The current exhibition in the main hall is by Phyllida Barlow, gigantic sculptures made of found and recycled objects. The first time we walked through the space I wasn't sure how I felt about them, but on walking through again I was really taken by the scale and impact of the pieces and completely changed my mind about them, the did remind me of tree houses and Peter Pan's Lost Boys hideout.

Big Ben, the first time I'd ever seen him close up, not actually that big.

Umbrella instillation, Borough Market

Paper Art instillation, Borough Market.

Artists In Textiles Exhibition, Fashion and Textiles Museum
Really inspiring exhibition and was so helpful for my uni work, not sure my dad was quite so impressed
with this one but he did seem to enjoy the Dali/ Disney film they had playing on the big screen!

Somewhere near Tower Bridge

This reminded me of Hogwarts.

Giant cake for lunch, was pretty epic.

Leaving this post here for now because I have so many photos I want to share.
Part two coming soon.

a r t// papercuts maps and shadows.

I'm currently a little obsessed with maps and cities.

I made some papercuts of various city maps and photographed them with an awesome setting on my camera which I cannot remember the name of and more thank likely won't be able to find again.
Love the way the colours capture the movement and the shadows!

A n n a b e l l e// introductions, hellos, welcomes

Hi? hello? Welcome?

I'm Annabelle.

That my face, on a reasonable good day.

I'm a third year Illustration student, although not for much longer (eek!)

I 'do' illustration, make pretty things and go on fun little adventures, sometimes. Mostly though I just pour over fashion magazines and blogs while whining about how I'm not stylish and rich.

I decided to find a little corner of the internet to share my day to day ramblings and creativity, in the hope that maybe someone will come across it and enjoy it. I'm hoping it'll also be a way to keep myself inspired after I leave the safe little nest that is art school and go into the wide world.

We shall see.
